Writers Festival

Our Writers Festival will be held next week, and there are many exciting activities planned throughout the week. On Monday, author and illustrator Michael Salmon will be visiting our school. Michael has written a number of children’s books, including The Monster That Ate Canberra.  As part of his visit, Michael will leave some illustrations for us to frame and display in the school. On Tuesday Frank Bongiorno will talk to our Year 5/6 students about publishing and researching; on Wednesday local author Craig Cormick will work with our senior students; and on Thursday Kirsten Vizjak will talk with our junior students about enjoying stories and book reviews. Next Friday will be our first ever Weetangera Book Swap. Students are asked to bring in a book they no longer read, and they can then swap it with someone else to get a different book. Throughout the week every child will share a “Poem In My Pocket”, and all students will contribute to three continuous stories running across the school.

As part of the Writers Festival children can enter our writing competition using the key words bizarre, pulse, and ominous within their stories. Entries close on Friday of Week 9. You can find details of this competition on this website Under 'For Parents/Information'.

The committee has been working very hard behind the scenes to coordinate the Writers Festival, and we must acknowledge their hard work in making the Festival such a success.
