Preschool is an important and exciting adventure for young children as they explore the wider community in a new social group. It is a time for children to develop friendships and learn more about their community and environment. Play is the natural way of the world for young children. At Weetangera, we offer a play based approach to learning using the Early Years Learning Framework to guide the curriculum. The framework's vision is for all children to experience play based learning that is engaging and builds success for life.

"Play is the work of the child." (Maria Montessori)

The preschool program caters for the interests of it's young learners and focuses on areas that interest them, as well as those that help make sense for their immediate environment and community. The program is flexible so as to make the most of the unexpected teaching moments that arise.

Indoor and outdoor activities are structured to allow children to experiment and explore in order to develop their understanding of their world, develop early literacy and numeracy skills, to socialise with their peers and develop as an individual.

"Play is the highest form of research." (Albert Einstein)

The preschool building is located on the primary school grounds. This enables the program to utilise the resources at the school such as the library, hall and playground, and allows for transition experiences throughout the year so that the children are familiar with the primary school when they start Kindergarten.

The preschool has an excellent "Buddy Program" with the primary school. Each preschool student is allocated a senior student who they spend time with doing a variety of activities in the preschool, and this relationship continues on into Kindergarten.

We have a strong parent community and families are always welcome to participate in the preschool program.
